Thanks to all of their talents and hard work, as of July 31, 2022, WSU researchers under Academic Affairs have submitted proposals budgeting a total of $11,747,988, received $2,058,976 in awards, and generated $348,267 in indirect cost recovery for FY2023.
The final numbers for FY2022 for Academic Affairs’ researchers are: $128,293,038 budgeted in submitted proposals, $40,954,009 in awards received, and $3,526,868 generated in indirect cost recovery.

Purpose: “The museum invites applications for its Black, Indigenous, and people of color residency program. Artists spend a month at The Studio exploring new directions in glassmaking or expanding on their current bodies of work while using the immense resources of the world’s leading glass museum. Transportation, as well as room and board, is provided for those selected to participate. Each resident is offered a generous supply budget and a shared studio space. Residents can access the Rakow Research Library, The Corning Museum of Glass collection, and expert Museum staff. A residency manager will serve as liaison to additional services in Corning and the Museum. During the residency, artists are expected to do their work. Each artist presents their work during a free public event in The Studio Lecture Room. Residencies occur in March, April, May, October, and November. One or two individuals are selected for each month.”

Studies that promote equitable dissemination and implementation of evidence-based interventions among underrepresented communities are encouraged. Conversely, there is a benefit in understanding circumstances that create a need to stop or reduce (“de-implement”) the use of practices that are ineffective, unproven, low-value, or harmful. In addition, studies to advance dissemination and implementation research methods and measures are encouraged. Applications that focus on re-implementation of evidence-based health services (e.g. cancer screening) that may have dropped off amidst the ongoing COVID pandemic are encouraged.”
Amount: The combined budget for direct costs for the two-year project period may not exceed $275,000. No more than $200,000 may be requested in a single year. The maximum project period is two years.

The Southern Plains Grassland Program seeks to work closely with nonprofit and government partners and the ranching community to bring important financial and technical resources to improve grassland ecosystem health and resilience to climate change in the Southern Great Plains. These actions will boost the vitality of this often-overlooked ecosystem, providing benefits to wildlife and to rural, ranching-based communities. These actions increase the ability of grasslands to store carbon, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and provide key benefits to address climate change.”
Amount: The Southern Plains Grassland Program will award approximately $1.5 million this cycle to 10-15 grants. Grants may be up to three years in length. Note, 1:1 match is required.

Learn to Use BeoShock for your Advanced Research Computing Needs
Â鶹ĆĆ˝â°ć State University continues to host Beoshock, a High-performance Computing Cluster (HPC). This HPC is available and free to faculty members, researchers and students engaged in course work or research activities. BeoShock runs the CentOS Linux operating system and features approximately 720 processor cores, two high memory compute nodes with 1.5 terabytes of memory, and four graphics processing unit (GPU) accelerators. BeoShock also has a variety of software tools that may be helpful in your research endeavors, such as Matlab, Mathematica, R, Python and many more.

Office of Research EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT – Jana Henderson
Jana E. Henderson joined the Office of Research in 2014 and was promoted to serve as the Associate Director for the Pre-Award team in 2021. The Pre-Award team supports researchers and public service centers under Academic Affairs by assisting with proposal submissions and contract negotiations, while also providing administrative support for the Faculty Support Committee, Institutional Review Board and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
Jana obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from WSU in 2007 and started working for WSU in 2008. She started in the Office for Workforce, Professional and Community Education before transitioning to the Office of Research. She enjoys working with her team to support faculty and staff in growing WSU’s research and service portfolio. Outside of work, Jana enjoys going to church and volunteering at various events, such as WSU’s commencement ceremonies.
